Monnit Sensor Connection (beta)
Send readings from Monnit wireless temperature sensors to OpenBoxes Lift through an iMonnit webhook. Lift then shows each sensor's readings beside its OpenBoxes location and checks them against your alert rule.
Lift shows a copy of your logger's record. Use your logger's own record for decisions about your vaccines and medicines, and for inspections. Lift is not a validated system.
Sensor connections are in beta on every plan, at no extra charge during the beta. This connection is built to Monnit's published webhook format. See Temperature Loggers for how readings, alert rules and alerts work.
Which Monnit sensors#
- Monnit Temperature sensors
- Monnit Thermocouple sensors (often used on ultra-low freezers)
Other Monnit sensors are not supported, including humidity sensors, door sensors and water sensors. Their messages are ignored, so they do no harm on the same webhook.
Your iMonnit account must be able to send webhooks. Check with Monnit which iMonnit plan includes them.
1. Add the connection in Lift#
- In the customer portal, open Devices & sensors > Sensors > Connections. Only the account owner or an Admin can add a connection.
- Choose Add a connection, pick Monnit (iMonnit webhook) and give it a name.
- Lift shows the connection's web address, a username (the connection ID) and a secret. Copy the secret now: Lift shows it only once.
2. Set up the webhook in iMonnit#
In iMonnit, set up a data webhook that sends your sensors' messages:
- URL: the web address Lift showed you.
- Authentication: Basic. The username is the connection ID and the password is the secret.
Lift stores a reading only when the message says which unit it is in (°C or °F), using the plot value and plot label that iMonnit's sensor messages carry. A reading whose unit Lift cannot confirm is counted and not stored.
3. Accept each sensor#
Lift does not store readings from a sensor until it is accepted. Once iMonnit has sent a message, open the connection's Devices in the portal: each sensor waits there under its Monnit sensor ID. Choose Accept readings, and give the logger a name if you like. Readings sent before you accept it are not added. Then place the logger at its OpenBoxes location on Locations and give it an alert rule.
Good to know#
- Lift reads the time of each message as UTC, as iMonnit sends it.
- Readings more than 35 days old are not stored.
- An account can have up to 10 connections, each with up to 200 accepted sensors.
- Make a new secret keeps the old secret working for 24 hours while you update iMonnit. If a secret may have leaked, use Turn off instead: it stops the connection at once. Then add a new one. A connection can't be deleted: once turned off, it stays in the list, below the active ones.
- Temperature alerts are a second channel, not a replacement for your sensors' own alerts in iMonnit.
