The nonprofit discount: who qualifies and how to claim it

OpenBoxes Lift has a discount for registered nonprofits and NGOs. It is not applied automatically and there is no code to enter: you claim it by email and our team verifies it by hand. This article explains who qualifies, what the discount is, how it fits with the founding-member offer, and what to send when you claim it. Who qualifies#

Registered nonprofits and NGOs. In practice that means an organization with a charity or 501(c)(3) registration, or the equivalent registration in its own country.

There is no separate education, student or classroom discount.

What the discount is#

The discount is always stated against a named plan:

• $25/month off the Shared Tier monthly plan: $125/month instead of $150.
• $300/year off the Shared Tier annual plan: $1,140/year instead of $1,440.
• $100/month off the Dedicated Tier monthly plan: $500/month instead of $600.
• $1,200/year off the Dedicated Tier annual plan: $4,560/year instead of $5,760.

There is no nonprofit discount on the Enterprise Tier.

Three details worth knowing before you budget:

• It comes off the plan price only. Add-ons, such as extra users, extra storage or longer backup retention, are billed at their listed prices.
• Annual billing's 20% saving is already in the annual plan price. The nonprofit amount comes off that annual price.
• It is one discount at a time. The nonprofit discount is not combined with the founding-member offer.

How it fits with the founding-member offer#

While the founding-member offer is open, it is the bigger discount, so a nonprofit that signs up gets the founding-member price first. The nonprofit discount still matters: when the founding-member period ends, a verified nonprofit moves to the nonprofit rate instead of standard pricing. Once the founding-member offer has closed, new nonprofit signups get the nonprofit rate from the start. You can claim it at signup, even while the founding-member price applies, so the verification is out of the way before the nonprofit rate comes due.

How to claim it#

1. Sign up for the plan you want. Choose Shared or Dedicated as normal. The 30-day free trial applies as it does for anyone.
2. Email your registration details to sales@openboxes.cloud, from your organization's address. You can do this at signup or at any time afterwards.
3. We verify and record it. Our team confirms the registration and records it against your account. The nonprofit rate takes effect when it comes due; the terms page lists when that is for each case.

There is no form, code or switch in the portal for this. The email is the claim.

What to include in the email#

Sending everything at once saves a round of questions. It helps to include:

• Your organization's legal name, as it appears on the registration.
• The registration itself: the charity or 501(c)(3) number, or your country's equivalent, and the register or authority that issued it.
• A link to the public register entry or a copy of the registration certificate, if you have one to hand.
• Your OpenBoxes Lift account: the email address you signed up with and your instance's address (yourname.openboxes.cloud), so we can find the account.
• The plan you are on or intend to choose, Shared or Dedicated, monthly or annual.
